Industrial Designer (Packaging Design)

We are looking for an experienced industrial designer with a strong background in packaging design. The ideal candidate will also have expertise in industrial and mechanical design, including the production of 3D models, technical drawings, and comprehensive design documentation. Proficiency with computer-aided design (CAD) tools is essential for collaborating across part and tooling design, ensuring transparency, repeatable processes, and producing detailed documentation, while taking full ownership of the product development lifecycle. A deep understanding of the complete product development process, from initial conceptual sketches through to production ready designs is crucial, with an emphasis on both aesthetic appeal and manufacturability. The role involves close collaboration with the director of design engineering, design leads, engineering teams, and other stakeholders to create accurate designs that meet customer specifications, industry standards, and manufacturing capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Use computer-assisted design/drafting equipment and software, to develop design solutions from initial concepts to finalized technical drawings.
• Expert in SolidWorks and Solidworks Simulation, KeyShot, and Adobe Creastive Suite.
• Strict maintenance of internal design guidelines, documentation, and SOPs to ensure a consistent, repeatable, and scalable foundation for design excellence.
• Create and revise production drawings (detail and assembly drawings), and review and support their execution.
• Sketch rough layout of product angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii, clearances, tolerances, leverages, and location of holes.
• Draft detailed Multiview drawings of products.
• Make a final sketch of proposed drawing with dimensional accuracy, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to the whole structure or project.
• Streamlining your workflows and proactively eliminate bottlenecks while maintaining keen attention to detail. Ensures designs are error-free and consistently meet the highest quality standards.
• Conduct design reviews and usability testing to gather feedback and iterate on the design until they meet user needs.
• Provide design timeline estimates based on client requirements and complexity.
• Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Packaging, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Materials Science; advanced degree preferred.
• 7-10 years of experience in product design, with at least 3 years in a leadership role managing and developing design teams. Must have extensive demonstratable experience working with international English-speaking vendors.
• Extensive hands-on experience in tooling and part design, with a proven ability to convert conceptual designs into practical, manufacturable solutions through effective collaboration. Strong understanding of materials, structural design, and manufacturing processes, along with a demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to and master new materials and methods.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both development and operations teams. Capable of providing transparent communication to stakeholders, ensuring clear visibility into project status, risks, and opportunities. Represent the design function in cross-functional meetings, offering insights that align with customer satisfaction and organizational goals.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot independently. Able to work autonomously with minimal supervision while collaborating well in a team environment.
• Exceptional project management and organizational skills with a proven ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously. Skilled at balancing innovation, manufacturability, sustainability, and cost efficiency while effectively managing time, prioritizing tasks, and ensuring successful team execution.
• Proactively demonstrate a strong commitment to continuous learning and improvement by actively adopting new technologies and techniques that reduce build costs and enhance client outcomes. Remain up to date on materials, technologies, and methods pertinent to molded fiber design and manufacturing.
