Job Purpose:
The Assistant General Manager, Research & Insights will spearhead the development and execution of a strategic research and insights agenda for the BRAC Microfinance programme. This role is responsible for establishing a high-performing, data-driven team that provides critical insights to inform and influence high-level strategic decisions, ensuring the program remains dynamic, client-centric, and aligned with industry trends.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic direction to the team to ensure research activities are directly linked to programme goals and priorities.
  • Lead, and mentor a contemporary and "right-fit" Research & Insights team, fostering a culture of excellence and analytical consistency.
  • Serve as a key strategic partner to the senior management, using in-depth research to influence decision-making around client-centric interventions and social performance.
  • Continuously analyze microcredit industry dynamics and future trends to keep BRAC's program in sync with the changing market landscape.
  • Conduct a comprehensive gap analysis of the program's research needs and develop a robust mechanism for providing actionable insights that directly influence the strategic framework.
  • Develop a comprehensive, year-long research log frame that outlines the research requirements for all key programmatic functions; product development, client services.
  • Build and enhance the in-house capacity for conducting basic-level research, enabling the team to provide quick, data-informed insights for immediate decision-making.
  • Cultivate and manage strategic partnerships with reputable local and international research firms to execute complex programmatic research projects.
  • Establish an effective liaison with local and international thought leaders in the microfinance sector to share BRAC's research findings, experiences, and learnings.
  • Champion and embed a culture of research-based decision-making across different management layers of the microfinance programme.
  • Collaborate effectively with other BRAC programs and external partners on various projects to leverage shared knowledge and resources.

Safeguarding Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety of team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment, and exploitation to achieve the program's goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance, and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.
  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so.

Additional Job Requirements

  • Strong expertise in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, with a clear understanding of their application, strengths, and limitations.
  • Proven experience in strategy formulation, including the development of Logframes, Annual Operating Plans (AOPs), and Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) frameworks.
  • In-depth understanding of social dynamics, emerging needs, and broader trends that influence financial inclusion and poverty alleviation.
  • Sound knowledge of the microfinance industry, including competitive dynamics and the roles of research firms, regulators, and development organizations.
  • Advanced ability to analyze complex datasets, interpret findings, and translate them into actionable insights.
  • Demonstrated skills in developing and implementing strategic frameworks to guide organizational and programmatic direction.
  • Strong capacity to build and manage effective partnerships with research agencies, global thought leaders, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience in mentoring and coaching to strengthen the research capacity of team members.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to analyze complex issues and design long-term solutions aligned with organizational goals.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior leadership and support high-level decision-making.
  • Strong collaborative mindset, with the ability to work effectively across teams and with a wide range of external partners.

Educational Requirements:
Master's in Statistics/ Mathematics/ Economics/ MBA or any other equivalent discipline from a recognized university/institute.

Experience Requirements:
Minimum 7 years of experience in any research agency or firm, or organization that has a robust research and insights unit.
