Job Purpose

The
Business Development Manager (Solar & BESS)
is responsible for driving revenue growth, expanding strategic market presence, and acquiring new customers for the company. This role combines sales leadership, deep market insight, and technical expertise in solar EPC and battery energy storage systems (BESS). The position leads sales strategies, monitors team performance, and strengthens client relationships to ensure the achievement of the company's growth and business objectives.

Roles and Responsibilities

1. Sales Strategy & Market Development

  • Develop and execute annual and long-term business development strategies aligned with company objectives.
  • Identify new market opportunities within the Commercial, Industrial, and Institutional (C&I) and Govt. sectors.
  • Stay informed on government policies, subsidies, and industry trends impacting solar EPC projects.

2. Team Leadership & Performance Management

  • Lead, mentor, and motivate the sales team to achieve individual and collective targets.
  • Define sales territories, quotas, and performance metrics.
  • Conduct regular team reviews, coaching, and skills development sessions.

3. Client Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain relationships with key clients, strategic partners, and stakeholders.
  • Oversee major client presentations, negotiations, and deal closures.
  • Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction and repeat business.

4. Proposal Oversight & Contract Negotiation

  • Review and approve key technical and commercial proposals developed with engineering and finance teams.
  • Negotiate high-value contracts ensuring compliance with company policies and profitability targets.

5. Market Intelligence & Competitive Analysis

  • Monitor competitor activities, pricing strategies, and emerging technologies.
  • Provide actionable insights and recommendations to senior management for strategic decisions.

6. Cross-functional Coordination

  • Collaborate with project, design, finance, and operations teams for smooth project handovers.
  • Ensure alignment between sales, marketing, and technical departments to deliver value to clients.

Deliverables

  • Annual and quarterly sales and revenue targets achieved.
  • Comprehensive sales strategies and territory plans.
  • Accurate revenue forecasts and pipeline reports.
  • Signed contracts and partnership agreements meeting profitability standards.
  • Market intelligence and competitor analysis reports.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Total revenue achieved vs. targets.
  • Lead-to-contract conversion rates.
  • Customer acquisition cost vs. lifetime value.
  • Client satisfaction scores and repeat business percentage.
  • Sales team performance against KPIs.
  • Timeliness and accuracy of reporting and forecasting.

Records to Maintain

  • CRM records of all leads, opportunities, and client communications.
  • Signed contracts, proposals, and negotiation documents.
  • Sales performance data (weekly, monthly, quarterly).
  • Competitor intelligence and market trend logs.
  • Team performance evaluations and training records.

Reporting Structure

  • Weekly:
    Sales pipeline updates, lead status, and team performance reports to CEO/Managing Director.
  • Monthly:
    Revenue forecasts, competitor analysis, and strategic adjustments to senior management.
  • Quarterly:
    Market expansion results, client retention data, and business development strategies to the Board/Executive Team.

Qualifications & Skills Required

  • Education:
    Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Engineering, or related field (MBA or advanced degree preferred).
  • Experience:
    Minimum 5 years of progressive sales and business development experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role—preferably in Solar EPC, Renewable Energy, or Power sectors.
  • Strong understanding of solar PV technology, EPC workflows, and energy market dynamics.
  • Proven track record of achieving or exceeding sales targets and driving revenue growth.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in CRM systems and MS Office Suite.
  • Analytical and strategic thinking with problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage and inspire a team, work under pressure, and prioritize effectively.
  • Willingness to travel extensively for business development and client meetings.
