Job Purpose:

looking for a hands-on Database Administrator (DBA) with min 3+ years of experience who can take end-to-end ownership of our PostgreSQL and MongoDB platforms. The role spans across infrastructure and application layers, covering everything from server build, installation, backup and recovery through to application-aware performance tuning, diagnostics, and incident support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provision, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL and MongoDB environments across development, staging, and production.
  • Design, implement, and test backup and disaster recovery strategies using appropriate tooling (e.g. pgBackRest, mongodump, snapshots, offsite replication).
  • Monitor database performance and system health using Prometheus, Grafana, Elastic and native database telemetry.
  • Investigate and resolve database-level issues including query performance, locking, replication lag, and storage constraints.
  • Collaborate closely with developers and application SMEs to identify tuning opportunities and support schema/index optimisation.
  • Perform version upgrades, patching, and configuration changes with rollback awareness.
  • Manage OS-level tuning and storage provisioning for optimal DB performance.
  • Apply and enforce access controls, auditing, and secrets handling (e.g. via BeyondTrust or Vault).
  • Document all DB infrastructure and recovery procedures to ensure repeatability and cross-team clarity.
  • Contribute to automation and standardisation of DBA workflows via scripting or orchestration tools.
  • Act as SME during production incidents involving database behaviour, availability, or integration.

Requirements:

  • Strong Linux system administration skills related to database infrastructure (CentOS/Ubuntu).
  • Experience tuning PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
  • Familiarity with physical and virtual server environments, particularly Proxmox/oVirt.
  • Experience operating databases in containerised environments (Kubernetes, Helm charts) is desirable.
  • Hands-on experience with Prometheus, Grafana, Elastic and database monitoring tools (or equivalents).
  • Strong understanding of database security, encryption at rest/in transit, and auditing requirements.
  • Proven track record in performance diagnostics and incident troubleshooting under pressure.
  • Familiarity with AWS-hosted database services (RDS, EFS, S3 for backup pipelines) is a plus.
  • Scripting experience (e.g. Bash, Python) for automation of common tasks.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills, able to engage with cross-functional teams.

Nice to have:

  • Experience managing Redis for caching and session stores.
  • Exposure to Cassandra, particularly in high-write or time-series contexts.
