Senior Database Administrator

Job Context

TechnoNext is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database management, including the design, implementation, and maintenance of complex database systems. He will be responsible for ensuring the performance, security, and reliability of our databases, as well as optimizing and troubleshooting database issues.

Key ACCOUNTABILITIES

Strategic Database Management:
Develop and execute a strategic plan for the organization's database environment, ensuring alignment with business goals and technological advancements.

Team Leadership and Development:
Lead and mentor the database team, providing guidance, training, and support to junior & Mid DBAs to foster professional growth and ensure high performance.

•
Architect and Design Database Solutions:
Oversee the design and architecture of complex database systems, ensuring they meet current and future business needs in terms of scalability, performance, and security.

•
Performance and Capacity Planning:
Proactively manage database performance and capacity planning, identifying potential issues and implementing solutions before they impact business operations.

•
Advanced Query Optimization:
Lead efforts to optimize complex SQL queries and database configurations to enhance application performance and system efficiency.

•
Oversee Security and Compliance:
Ensure all database systems comply with security standards, data protection regulations, and industry best practices, implementing advanced security measures as needed.

•
Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity:
Lead the development and testing of comprehensive disaster recovery and business continuity plans for the database environment.

•
Manage Database Upgrades and Migrations:
Plan and manage large-scale database upgrades, migrations, and deployments, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.

•
Vendor and Stakeholder Management:
Manage relationships with database vendors and key stakeholders, ensuring that database solutions meet business requirements and service level agreements (SLAs).

Incident Management and Resolution:
Lead the response to critical database incidents, providing expert-level troubleshooting and ensuring rapid resolution to minimize downtime and data loss.

•
Documentation and Standards:
Establish and enforce documentation standards for all database-related processes, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records are maintained.

•
Reporting and Analysis:
Oversee the creation of detailed reports on database performance, usage, security, and incident resolution for executive management.

•
Budget and Resource Management:
Manage the database team's budget, resources, and tools, ensuring cost-effective use of technology while maintaining high levels of service.

•
Innovation and Continuous Improvement:
Stay abreast of the latest database technologies and trends, driving innovation and continuous improvement within the database environment.

•
Collaboration with IT and Business Units:
Act as the primary liaison between the database team and other IT and business units, ensuring effective communication and collaboration on projects impacting the database systems.

•
Governance and Policy Development:
Develop and enforce governance policies for database management, ensuring consistency, reliability, and adherence to corporate standards.

Required EXPERTISE AND COMPETENCIES

-
 Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.

-  Proven experience 5+ years
 as a Database Administrator or in a similar role, with a strong portfolio of database management projects.

-  Proficiency in RDBMS such as
PostgreSQL
, Microsoft SQL Server, or MySQL and must have 3+ years experiences with PostgreSQL.

-  Knowledge in NoSQL databases like Redis, MongoDB, ElasticSearch and Casandra.

-  At least 3+ years of working experiences with Linux operating systems, including basic shell scripting for automation.

-  Solid understanding of SQL and database query optimization techniques.

-  Experience with database backup and recovery, security management, and performance tuning.

-  Familiarity with database design principles, normalization, and data modeling.

-  Knowledge of database administration tools and utilities.

-  Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or in a team environment.

-  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and clients.

-  Experience with cloud-based database services such as AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database, or Google Cloud SQL.

-  Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation of database tasks.

-  Understanding of DevOps practices and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.

Educational Requirements

Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Computer Science, Software Engineering or similar from reputed public and private universities.
