The
QA Team Lead
will report to
QA Manager.

The QA Team Lead will be responsible for leading our quality assurance efforts across the Ding mobile app and web platforms, managing a team of manual testers while collaborating closely with automation engineers to ensure exceptional product quality. Success in this role means delivering high-quality releases on schedule, building a high-performing QA team, and establishing robust testing processes that scale with our growing product. This position is critical to maintaining Ding's reputation for reliability and user experience, serving as the quality gatekeeper between our engineering teams and millions of customers who depend on our platform for essential mobile top-up services. The ideal candidate will balance hands-on testing expertise with strong leadership skills, driving a culture of quality throughout the organisation while enabling faster, more confident product delivery.

Responsibilities & Duties:

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of manual QA testers, providing regular coaching, feedback, and performance reviews
  • Conduct 1-on-1s with team members to support their professional growth and address challenges
  • Assign and prioritise testing tasks across the team based on sprint goals and release schedules
  • Foster a culture of quality and continuous improvement within the QA team
  • Manage workload distribution to ensure efficient resource utilisation and prevent burnout
  • Recruit, onboard, and train new QA team members as the team scales
  • Manage performance cycles for the team alongside the QA Manager.

Test Strategy & Planning

  • Define and implement the overall QA strategy for both Ding app (iOS/Android) and web platforms
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Design teams to understand requirements and acceptance criteria
  • Ensure comprehensive test plans and test strategies are created for new features, releases, and regression cycles
  • Identify testing scope, objectives, resources, and timelines for each release cycle
  • Determine appropriate test coverage across functional, regression, integration, and exploratory testing
  • Balance manual and automated testing approaches to maximise efficiency and coverage
  • Perform hands-on testing for critical features and complex scenarios
  • Conduct exploratory testing to identify edge cases and potential user experience issues
  • Support QA verification of remote configs, A/B testing, and app behavior based on dynamic Firebase configurations.
  • Test deep linking, deferred deep linking, attribution tracking, and campaign-specific user flows to ensure seamless user experience.

Release Management

  • Lead QA sign-off process for releases, ensuring quality standards are met
  • Communicate status of regression cycles and readiness to release with teams.
  • Oversee smoke testing and sanity checks post-deployment
  • Ensure rollback procedures are tested and documented
  • Monitor app performance, app reviews, crash reports, and user feedback post-release for continuous quality improvements.

Automation Collaboration

  • Partner closely with automation engineers to identify automation opportunities and prioritise test automation efforts
  • Provide manual test cases and scenarios to automation engineers for conversion into automated tests
  • Review automated test scripts and provide feedback from a functional testing perspective
  • Help define the automation roadmap, balancing quick wins with long-term strategic automation goals
  • Ensure seamless integration between manual and automated testing efforts
  • Monitor automated test execution and work with automation engineers to resolve failures and flaky tests

Defect Management & Quality Metrics

  • Manage the defect lifecycle from identification through resolution and verification
  • Triage bugs, assign severity and priority levels, and ensure timely resolution
  • Track and report on key quality metrics including source of bugs, root causes, resolution status etc.
  • Analyse trends in defects and testing outcomes to identify areas for process improvement

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary QA point of contact for front-end product releases and feature launches
  • Participate in sprint planning, daily standups, and retrospectives
  • Collaborate with Product Managers to clarify requirements and ensure testability
  • Work with Engineering teams to understand technical implementations and potential risk areas
  • Communicate QA status, blockers, and risks to stakeholders and leadership
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to test and validate in-app campaign integrations (e.g., push notifications, in app notifications, promotions, inbox messages).

Process Improvement & Documentation

  • Continuously evaluate and optimise QA processes and methodologies
  • Establish and maintain QA best practises, standards, and guidelines
  • Create and maintain comprehensive testing documentation including test plans and wiki pages.
  • Drive initiatives to improve test efficiency, reduce testing cycle times, and increase quality
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging testing tools and techniques
  • Champion quality throughout the organisation and advocate for testability in product design

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Minimum 5-6 years of hands-on experience in QA/testing roles with focus on mobile app (iOS/Android) and web platforms
  • At least 2 years in a leadership or team lead capacity, managing and mentoring QA testers
  • Proven track record of coordinating both manual and automated testing

Technical Skills & Experience

  • Extensive experience testing mobile applications across iOS and Android platforms
  • Strong knowledge of web application testing across multiple browsers and devices
  • Proficiency with mobile app testing tools including Firebase Test Lab and Crashlytics
  • Knowledge of mobile-specific testing considerations (push notifications, offline functionality, app permissions)
  • Experience with cross-browser and cross-device testing platforms such as BrowserStack or similar tools
  • Solid understanding of RESTful APIs and ability to validate backend services
  • Familiarity with design collaboration tools like Figma for requirements validation and UI/UX testing
  • Expert-level knowledge of test management and defect tracking tools
  • Experience with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD pipelines
  • Understanding of automation frameworks and ability to collaborate effectively with automation engineers
  • Knowledge of performance testing and monitoring tools for mobile and web applications

Leadership & Soft Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop QA team members
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to articulate quality issues to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience working in agile/scrum methodologies with cross-functional teams
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to meet tight deadlines

Nice to haves

  • Experience in the fintech, payments, or mobile top-up industry
  • Exposure to test automation tools and scripting (Selenium, Appium, Cypress, etc.)
  • Experience with Charles Proxy or similar network debugging tools
  • Hands-on experience with API testing using Postman or equivalent tools
  • Familiarity with SQL for database testing and validation
  • Understanding of accessibility testing standards and practises
