The Junior Environmental Specialist is responsible to support environmental assessments, compliance monitoring, and implementation of

sustainability practices in projects, ensuring adherence to environmental regulations and client requirements.

Key Accountabilities:

Conduct environmental assessments and support compliance with ESMPs. Monitor contractor adherence to environmental safeguards.

Prepare environmental compliance and incident reports.

Key Accountability 1:
Conduct environmental assessments and support compliance with ESMPs.

Key Activities:

• Assist in conducting Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and Initial Environmental Examinations (IEE) for project sites.

• Monitor and report on compliance with Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs).

• Coordinate with project teams and contractors to implement mitigation measures.

Key Outcomes:

• Environmental assessments completed in accordance with regulatory and project requirements.

• ESMP compliance maintained throughout project implementation.

• Improved environmental performance and reduced project risks.

Key Accountability 2:
Monitor contractor adherence to environmental safeguards.

Key Activities:

• Conduct regular site inspections to assess compliance with environmental safeguard measures.

• Identify non-compliance issues and recommend corrective actions.

• Maintain documentation and prepare reports for internal and client review.

Key Outcomes:

• Timely identification and resolution of environmental non-compliance.

• Enhanced contractor awareness and implementation of safeguards.

• Reduced environmental impacts and improved audit readiness.

: Prepare environmental compliance and incident reports.

Key Activities:

• Compile monitoring data and site observations to draft compliance reports.

• Document environmental incidents, including root causes and corrective actions taken.

• Ensure timely submission of reports to relevant authorities and stakeholders.

Key Outcomes:

• Accurate and comprehensive reporting aligned with regulatory and project standards.

• Swift response and follow-up on environmental incidents.

• Strengthened transparency and accountability in environmental management

Ideal Person Specification

Experience/ Skills / Knowledge

• Minimum 5 years of experience, including 3 years in relevant field

• Conduct environmental assessments and support ESMP compliance monitoring.

• Identify and report environmental risks and non-compliance issues.

• Prepare accurate environmental compliance and incident reports.

• Collaborate effectively with contractors, project teams, and stakeholders.

• Assist in implementing mitigation measures to minimize environmental impact.

• Understanding of environmental laws, regulations, and ESMP requirements

• Knowledge of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and monitoring techniques

• Data collection, analysis, and environmental reporting skills

• Familiarity with environmental management systems and compliance tools

• Basic GIS and remote sensing knowledge (optional but beneficial)

• Fieldwork and site inspection procedures

• Strong communication and teamwork abilities
