KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive):
The National Insurance Policy Specialist will work in close collaboration with IDRA, technical staff, and other relevant stakeholders under the close supervision of the IRM leadership at WFP. Specific responsibilities include:
1. Review existing insurance policies, strategies, and regulatory instruments in Bangladesh and identify gaps and inconsistencies.
2. Identify barriers in the policy framework with respect to global standards and best practices.
3. Consult with government agencies, private sector insurers, development partners, and civil society to gather inputs on policy priorities.
4. Facilitate technical meetings/workshops for consensus building for government departments, ministries, insurance companies, and technical agencies.
5. Provide technical inputs for the drafting of the National Insurance Policy, ensuring alignment with national strategies (SDGs, Delta Plan, Disaster Risk Financing strategies, etc.).
6. Recommend measures to enhance inclusivity (gender, vulnerable groups), innovation (digital finance, parametric insurance), and sustainability.
7. Build the capacity of IDRA staff through knowledge sharing, mentoring, and technical guidance on international good practices.
8. Develop practical tools and recommendations for implementation and monitoring of the new policy.
9. Perform any other task as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: Completion of Advanced University Degree (Master's or equivalent) is required. Education in Finance, Environmental Science, Disaster Management, Social Sciences or any relevant field is preferable.
Experience: At least 7 years of experience, including 4 years of Professional Experience (Managerial/Supervisory) in relevant field activities or projects that involve Risk Financing Interventions for Resilience Building, Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation. Within these 4 years of professional experience, a minimum of 3 years of experience must be after postgraduation.
Language: Fluency in spoken and written both in English and Bangla language.
