A Head of Animal Probiotic Sales is a senior-level position responsible for developing and executing sales strategies to drive revenue and market growth for animal health and nutrition products. This role combines strong leadership skills with deep industry knowledge, focusing on feed additives, including probiotics, for livestock and companion animals.
Key responsibilities
Strategy and business development
Develop and execute comprehensive sales strategies and operational plans to achieve business objectives and sales targets.
Analyze market trends, competitor activities, and customer needs to identify new business opportunities and define market positioning.
Formulate and manage the budget for the sales department, including sales, revenue, and expense controls.
Lead new business development efforts by identifying target clients, strategic partners, and distribution channels.
Sales and account management
Own the profit and loss (P&L) responsibility for the sales division, focusing on optimizing sales turnover and improving profitability.
Build and maintain high-level relationships with key customers and distributors, including feed mills, integrators, and large-scale farms.
Serve as the key contact for problem resolution and escalate issues with customers and internal stakeholders.
Drive customer acquisition strategies to grow the company's market share and develop a robust opportunity pipeline.
Team leadership and management
Lead, mentor, and motivate a high-performing team of sales professionals and technical service staff.
Oversee the selection, hiring, development, and retention of sales talent.
Conduct performance management and provide ongoing coaching to maximize the effectiveness of the sales team.
Provide experience-based strategic guidance to help the team navigate complex sales cycles.
Product and technical expertise
Possess a strong understanding of animal nutrition, health-related feed additives (like probiotics and prebiotics), and industry regulations.
Collaborate with marketing, R&D, and regulatory teams to develop effective sales collateral and to support the launch of new products.
Communicate complex scientific data and technical information to customers, translating technical results into strong sales arguments.
Stay up-to-date with the latest research and developments in animal probiotics and feed technology.
Reporting and administration
Track and report on sales performance, key performance indicators (KPIs), market feedback, and pipeline status to senior management.
Ensure the sales team fully utilizes CRM software and other sales management tools.
Prepare and deliver presentations for key clients and internal stakeholders.
Required skills and qualifications
Education: A university degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Nutrition, Animal Science, or a related field. An MBA is often a plus.
Experience: A proven track record of 5 or more years in B2B sales within the animal industry, specifically with feed additives like probiotics. Experience in a leadership role is essential.
Knowledge: Advanced understanding of the feed additive industry, animal nutrition, and a solid grasp of market dynamics and trends.
Skills: Exceptional leadership, communication, and negotiation abilities. The ideal candidate should be a strategic thinker with a "business hunting" mentality and strong analytical skills.
Attributes: A proactive, self-starter personality with an entrepreneurial spirit. Willingness to travel is often required to meet with clients, partners, and attend trade shows.
