If you're a seasoned legal expert with a profound understanding of land law, join us in a key leadership role where you'll safeguard BRAC's land assets, manage litigation, and provide critical legal guidance to support our mission of building a better world.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervise the legal team to identify legal and operational risks associated with BRAC Estate. Keep management informed and take necessary steps accordingly.
• Manage compliance issues related to land and other relevant matters.
• Lead efforts to resolve land-related litigations and disputes through both court proceedings and alternative dispute resolution (ADR), while prioritizing the best interests of BRAC.
• Ensure proper follow-up with panel lawyers for legal support. This includes document vetting, drafting plaints/written statements/petitions, collecting and delivering documents, and scheduling meetings with lawyers.
• Identify overall risks associated with BRAC land and inform management to enable appropriate legal action.
• Provide guidance and follow-up to supervisees on land vetting, ownership verification of purchasable land, preparation of case reports, etc. Also, ensure land legality through verification from relevant government offices and provide written legal opinions.
• Liaise with High Court/Supreme Court lawyers for high-value and sensitive cases.
• Communicate and maintain liaison with the BRAC legal department, various government offices, the judiciary, and other regulatory authorities.
• Provide legal support for mutation processes, mutation-related miscellaneous cases, and record issues.
• Ensure the land case database is kept up to date in the land management system software/ERP. Analyze reports and take appropriate actions accordingly.
• Ensure protection of BRAC land from illegal occupation or claims by initiating legal action when necessary.

SAFEGUARDING RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensure the safety of Programme Participants, people who come into contact with the organisation and team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) to achieve the programme's goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
• Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.
• Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so.

ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Strong ability to conduct civil suits.
• Ability to vet land documents and give legal opinions in writing.
• Practicing knowledge as an Advocate in Bangladesh Supreme Court and Judge Court.
• Profound knowledge on land as a practicing lawyer and also as a corporate lawyer.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor of Law from any recognized institution/ university (preferably LL.B (Hons) and LL.M, majoring in Civil)

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum 07 (seven) years' experience in Land Management including practice as lawyer for at least 5 years.
