About Us
The British Council in Bangladesh, with main teaching centres in Dhaka at Fuller Road and BRAC University and the new Young Learner Centre in Uttara, serves 4,000–5,000 students per term and provides English training to public and private sector clients. With over 70 years of presence, it has a strong brand and reputation for quality English education and international exams, playing a key role in education and cultural exchange. While English is widely taught, proficiency levels are generally modest (CEF A1–B1), making language improvement crucial for students and professionals seeking local and global opportunities.

Role Purpose
The role supports the British Council's global English strategy by delivering teaching to the highest standards of English language teaching (ELT), ensuring students receive quality instruction that aligns with international benchmarks.

In addition, it emphasizes continuing professional development, encouraging the sharing of best practices among educators to foster a culture of learning and improvement within the organisation.

Role Accountabilities
Teaching and Classroom Work
: Plan and deliver high-quality English lessons for adults and/or young learners, considering different learning styles. Use technology in the classroom to support learning and complete teaching tasks to the required standards. Teachers with experience or interest in corporate or teacher training may also work on related projects.

Student Support and Course Improvement:
Monitor student progress and give regular feedback to help learners improve and become more independent. Work with the teaching team to develop and improve courses, materials, and related services, and complete necessary administrative tasks.

Professional Growth and Safeguarding:
Take part in professional development to maintain high teaching standards and stay up-to-date with best practices. Build positive relationships with students and help them understand contemporary UK culture. Follow all safeguarding and child protection guidelines and complete mandatory training.

Qualifications And Experience

  • Candidates should hold a first degree (or equivalent) and a Cambridge CELTA or Trinity Cert TESOL, with high proficiency in English (IELTS Band 8/9 in all sections of the academic module).
  • They should have at least 2 years of post-certificate teaching experience, including substantial hours teaching relevant age groups: Secondary and Adult learners (16+) and Young Learners (6–15).

Important Information

  • Hourly rate: BDT per hour (depending on qualification and work experience).
  • Contract type: Local Contract
  • Contract Hours: minimum 12 hours/week - depending on the teaching requirements.
  • Work schedule: Teaching courses are mostly delivered on Fridays and Saturdays. This may be subject to change as per need with depending on the teaching requirements. A freelance teacher will be given one or more classes. The teacher must be able to cover the full-term teaching schedule for this / these classes. For example, a class every Sunday at 14:45 – 17:15 for the full ten-week term. There will also be stand-by and long-term cover work available.
  • Local restrictions on employment: Applicants must have the right to work in Bangladesh. The work visa will not be provided for this role
