Title: Secondary Chemistry / IBDP Chemistry (Tentative Job Objective: To educate students following the school's mission and vision and curriculum Qualifications: Education: U.S. or Equivalent Teacher Certification Masters degree in Science education or equivalent preferred
Experience: At least three years of teaching experience, preferably in international settings Prior IB Diploma Programme (Chemistry) teaching experience preferred Experience with external assessments, curriculum design, and interdisciplinary learning an advantage Experience integrating UDL practices in a DP classroom an advantage
Knowledge & Skills: Innovative Mindset, Collaborative, Flexible, Exhibits the Characteristics of the IB Learner Profile Strong understanding of IB Chemistry curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment practices Experience in a similar position with demonstrated success in student achievement Ability to integrate technology, case studies, simulations, and real-world applications into teaching

Major Areas of Responsibility:
Instructional Responsibilities Plan and prepare effective lessons aligned with the IBDP Chemistry curriculum Provide a classroom environment that encourages inquiry, collaboration, and critical thinking Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners Maintain high expectations for student learning and academic integrity Use assessments (formative, summative, IB rubrics) to monitor progress and adjust instruction Support students in Internal Assessments and preparation for External Assessments
Classroom Management & Student Support Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment Manage classroom behavior while accommodating different learning styles and backgrounds Be accessible to students for academic and pastoral support during and outside of class Act as a positive role model, promoting the values of the school and the IB mission
Communication & Collaboration Communicate regularly with students and parents about progress and expectations Collaborate with colleagues to develop cohesive curriculum materials and cross-disciplinary connections Work cooperatively with administration and staff to support school initiatives
Professional Growth & Contribution Stay current in chemistry, pedagogy, and IB developments through professional learning Integrate technology and innovative strategies into teaching Engage in continuous professional reflection and improvement Participate in professional networks, workshops, and conferences
Assignment of Duties: Teaching assignments and additional responsibilities will be determined by the administration in accordance with school policy. Teachers will normally have at least one "prep period" and one other non-teaching duty period, on average, per day
Duties Beyond the Classroom: While classroom teaching is the primary responsibility, AISD teachers are also expected to contribute meaningfully to the school community. This includes involvement in student activities, sports, service learning, clubs, curriculum development, and planning school events—helping students apply learning in authentic contexts and develop as global citizens.
