Assistant General Manager (AGM) - Tax & VAT

Job Description / Responsibility

  • Ensure timely preparation, review, and submission of all statutory returns and statements under
    Income Tax Act, 2023
    and
    VAT & SD Act, 2012
    .
  • Manage
    corporate income tax returns
    ,
    VAT returns (Mushak-9.1)
    ,
    withholding tax statements
    ,
    advance tax
    , and other statutory filings.
  • Ensure proper deduction, deposit, and reporting of
    withholding tax
    on salaries, contracts, supplies, services, rent, imports, and other applicable heads.
  • Oversee compliance with
    VAT registration
    ,
    BIN management
    ,
    price declaration
    ,
    input tax credit
    , and
    VAT deduction at source (VDS)
    .
  • Ensure accurate calculation and payment of
    VAT and Supplementary Duty (SD)
    on goods and services.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with
    electronic fiscal devices (EFD)
    and
    VAT Online System (VMS)
    requirements.
  • Develop tax-efficient structures and strategies compliant with Bangladesh tax laws.
  • Advise management on tax implications of new projects, expansions, capital investments, transfer of assets, and business restructuring.
  • Lead and manage
    tax and VAT audits, inspections, and assessments
    conducted by NBR, VAT Commissionerate, and Circle offices.
  • Prepare and review replies to
    audit observations, demand notices, show-cause notices
    , and assessment orders.
  • Handle
    appeals and revisions
    before
    Appellate Joint Commissioner, Taxes Appellate Tribunal, VAT Appellate Tribunal
    , and other relevant authorities in coordination with legal advisors.
  • Act as the principal point of contact with
    NBR, Tax Circles, VAT Commissionerate, Customs Houses
    , and other government agencies.
  • Represent the company in meetings, hearings, and negotiations with tax and VAT authorities.
  • Establish and strengthen internal controls related to tax and VAT processes to ensure compliance and minimize financial exposure.

  • Identify tax risks, non-compliance issues, and potential contingencies, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Lead, supervise, and develop the tax & VAT team, ensuring timely and accurate compliance.
  • Review team outputs, provide guidance, and ensure knowledge sharing on changes in Bangladesh tax laws.
  • Prepare periodic tax and VAT status reports for senior management, highlighting compliance, risks, and opportunities.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning with accurate tax projections.

Educational Requirements

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Accounting
  • Masters
  • Professional qualification (CA / CMA / ACCA) will be strongly preferred.

Experience Requirements

  • 10 to 15 year(s)
