Job Description / Responsibility

Project
: Gender Responsive Disaster Risk Reduction in Bangladesh (GRDRRB).

Location
: Chalna Pourashava, Dacope, Khulna (field-based with periodic travel)

Reportable To
: Project Manager/Executive Director

Position Overview

The Project Officer will support the planning, coordination, and implementation of the Gender Responsive Disaster Risk Reduction (GRDRR) project. The role focuses on ensuring that disaster preparedness, climate resilience, and community risk reduction activities meaningfully integrate gender equality and the needs of vulnerable groups. The Project Officer will work closely with communities, local government, women's groups, and field partners to deliver high-quality results and promote inclusive, sustainable resilience practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • A. Project Implementation
  • Support the execution of field-level activities, including community awareness sessions, training, simulation exercises, and gender-responsive DRR initiatives.
  • Facilitate vulnerability and capacity assessments (VCA), household surveys, and participatory planning with women, youth, and marginalized populations.
  • Assist in the development and distribution of gender-sensitive IEC materials, toolkits, and training resources.
  • Ensure activities follow project work plans, quality benchmarks, and safeguarding standards.
  • B. Community Engagement & Mobilization
  • Build strong relationships with community leaders, women's groups, disaster management committees, and local volunteers.
  • Mobilize communities to participate in DRR trainings, early warning mechanisms, and resilience-building efforts.
  • Promote women's leadership in disaster risk management platforms and community structures.
  • C. Coordination & Liaison
  • Coordinate with local government institutions (Union Parishad, Upazila administration), NGOs, and relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth activity implementation.
  • Support Project Manager in organizing workshops, meetings, and field events.
  • Represent the project at local-level coordination forums when delegated.
  • D. Monitoring, Documentation & Reporting
  • Collect field data, success stories, case studies, and beneficiary feedback for MEL purposes.
  • Maintain accurate records of activities, participants, and field observations.
  • Prepare timely progress reports, field updates, and documentation required by the Project Manager.
  • Support monitoring visits, evaluation exercises, and accountability mechanisms.
  • E. Capacity Building Support
  • Assist in designing and delivering training programs for community members, volunteers, and local institutions.
  • Support community-based disaster management committees in strengthening gender-sensitive preparedness and response capacities.
  • F. Administrative & Financial Support
  • Ensure timely submission of bills, activity budgets, and logistical requirements.
  • Support procurement and administrative processes as per organizational policies.
  • Monitor field expenditures to ensure accountability and cost-effectiveness.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor of Social Science (BSS)
  • Bachelor's degree in Disaster Management, Development Studies, Gender Studies, Social Science, or a related field (MBA/Master's preferred).

Additional Requirements

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in development, DRR, climate resilience, or gender-focused projects.
  • Good understanding of gender equality, community resilience, and disaster management concepts.
  • Experience working directly with communities, local government, and field partners.
  • Strong communication skills in Bangla and English.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively in field conditions.
  • Willingness to travel frequently to remote, disaster-prone areas.
