JOB DESCRIPTION icddr,b is a Bangladesh-based international health research institute that strives to solve key public health problems through high-quality scientific research and innovation. As a values-based organization, icddr,b encourages women and people with disabilities. Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading causes of death worldwide. Nearly 43% of the population in Bangladesh is in the age group of 6 months to 19 years are exposed to at least one NCD risk factor. Early diagnosis of NCDs in children could help health managers control the increasing burden of these diseases in adults. In this study, a comprehensive and scalable pediatric NCD service delivery model will be developed at primary health care systems in two districts (Kishoreganj and Bagerhat) of the Dhaka and Khulna divisions in Bangladesh, in collaboration with NCDC, DGHS, pediatric NCD experts and other stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities:

The Research Investigator will report to Principal Investigator and will be responsible to conduct scientific research into public health issues; pediatric NCDs, coordination and implementation of study in the selected study sites; coordination with stakeholders of the NCDC, MIS and others government departments and non-government organization, provide training at the facility level, prepare proposal for funding, publish research findings and to impact policies and programs with the objective of advancing scientific understanding of diseases and improving public health in communities within icddr,b guidelines and organizational values and guidelines (such as Institutional Governance Framework – IGF and Gender Diversity Guidelines).

He/ she will be responsible for:

  • Developing implementation plan in according with deliverables of the study;
  • Coordinating with stakeholders, expert groups formed in the study, and government partners, including the MIS, NCDC of DGHS, and health managers;
  • Synthesizing evidence from situation analysis of pediatric NCDs in Bangladesh;
  • Coordinating implementation of facility surveys and record review at various facilities in Bagerhat and Kishoreganj districts;
  • Organizing workshops with stakeholders for developing treatment guidelines and training modules for multiple paediatric NCDs;
  • Monitoring research progress for ensuring timely research outputs according to the protocols;
  • Conducting analysis of survey data and producing report under supervision of PI;
  • Writing manuscript for publication in peer-reviewed journals;
  • Supporting PI for developing research grant with collaboration I national and international institutions.

Required qualification and experience:

  • MBBS degree from a Medical College recognized by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council with a valid BMDC registration and MPH degree from a reputed organization;
  • 3 years of experience in relevant field;
  • At least one year of experience in a clinical trial/experimental study;
  • Experience in implementing digital health in government health facilities will be preferred.

Location: Dhaka, Bagerhat and Kishoreganj

Contract Type and duration:

  • CSA basis for six months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of fund and performance.

Salary & benefits:

  • Tk 1,21,585/-per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances;
  • Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b.
